How to Hang Air Plants with Fishing Line

Air plants make the right home decorations. They do add aesthetics to the theme of the house and bring out the green nature. For someone who loves air plants, tying them can sometimes be tricky. If they do not get adequately connected, the whole plant can get damaged and eventually die. With a fishing line, you can easily mount your favorite plants to the wall, roof, or anywhere you want them hanged. Most people prefer using wires. But here is how to hang air plants with fishing line

Where to Hang the Air Plants

You can hang air plants can pretty much anywhere you choose you to want to display them. It could be in your bathroom, the kitchen, balcony, among others. You are not limited to walls only, the other places you can have them is on the staircase.

Hanging Them From the Ceiling

Hanging them from the ceiling

Air plants can get hang in different positions that require different methods. One way to place them is by connecting the fishing line to the ceiling. For this project, you will need additional materials other than just the fishing line and the plant. You will have to purchase hooks to attach to the ceiling to create a base where the fishing line stays.

Please choose the appropriate ceiling location in your house where you want it to be. It could be in your living room, bedroom, in the hallway, or just any other room with a ceiling. Drill a small hole in the ceiling board and push in the hook. You can also screw it, depending on which type of ceiling hook you are installing on the wall.

Once the hook is in place, tie the fishing line directly to the roots. Attach the fishing line onto the hook and wrap it around a few times and then secure it with a note to keep it in place. If the knot is not tight, it will loosen and unwound itself. A loose fishing line won’t hold the plant and retain its position without risking its chances of falling on the floor. Take the tag end and tie it directly to the plant. Not all air plants need direct hanging; others will require you to put inside a container and hang them from that point.

Hanging With a Container

Another alternative if you do not want to hang the plant directly is by placing it on the container. Please choose the appropriate pot that fits the plant you wish to place them on. There are two ways you can hang them when they are inside the container. You can decide to place the pot with the air plants upright or have it upside down.

Once you have the container ready to be hanged, add some hooks to the wall you want to place it attached. The best tools to use are the ceiling hooks. Have the two on the ceiling. The pot should also have some holes that the line will go through. Drill some openings on the flower pot if it’s plastic or any material that withstand drilling.

Drilling clay pots can be a little tricky as it is prone to breaking anytime. Pass the line through the holes and hang both ends at the ceiling hooks. This method is helpful when hanging the plant upright. If you use pots that can easily break, create a base for them, e.g., a wire or cardboard placed with the line on a wall, and then place the air plants.

Hanging it Upside Down

Most air plants are inverted hanged rather than uprightly hanged. To easily do this, you need to reverse options if you would have had it upright. You can wound the line directly on the air plant and then place the other end on the hook. The other way will be to use a holder and then drill some holes either directly at the bottom of the sides closer to the bottom.

Put the container facing down and make a small hole at the bottom. Pass the fishing line through the hole and secure the inside part with a note. You will tie one end to the roof and the other end on the plant. After you have connected the plant, pull through the fishing line until the very end. Attach the other end on the hook, and that’s it. You can hang multiple air plants this way.

Creating a String Frame

Hanging air plants is not only limited to direct hanging or through pots. You can also use the string to create a frame and then put it on the wall with the plant inside. Find a square, rectangular, circle, or any shaped frame and screw some hooks onto the sides. Place it at the center of the structure and then attach the fishing line to the loops. Ensure you pass the line through the entire hole as you create a pattern.

You do not need to move from point A to B to C in that order; get creative and thread it in any direction you wish to. With this method, there won’t be any need to tie the air plant as it will be secure from falling off. Trim off the excess line and tie the string on four corners of the frame. If it’s a circular frame, have the line on at least three proportional points. It should be long enough to make it easy to hang. Bring all the loose ends together and tie them at the top to create one strong string. Hang it appropriately.

You will need to cut the fishing line to the appropriate length you want the plant to hang. If you want it to hang low, you will need to adjust the size of the line. Choose a strong fishing line like monofilament to keep the plants secure and safe from falling to the ground. With a fishing line, you can decide to use it thinly the way it is or create a braid to make it stronger to withstand the plant’s weight if it is not lightweight. To summarize it all, a line hangs air plants just like the string or wire. If you know how to fasten the air plants with them, you apply the same fishing line method.
